What is a Urogynecologist?

A Urogynecologist is a physician who specializes in female pelvic health. The typical pathway to becoming a Urogynecologist is go to Medical School, Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology or Urology, and a Fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. This is followed by Board Certification in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. Urogynecologists are uniquely positioned to help women with pelvic floor issues including urine or stool leakage, voiding difficulties, bladder infections, prolapse of the uterus and or vagina, pelvic or vulvar pain, fistulas, and weak pelvic floor muscles.
